Have you Heard
he annual Elks Windows luncheon was fun as usual. I sat by Norma Handy, and she reminded me of when we first met. She and Bert (her husband) liked to walk. They had walked to my bridge. Shelby told me someone was there and I went out to see, and there they were!!

he Valley Herald has stepped into 2010 on a new venue. The paper is now available online for $15 per year.
Not only does it save customers money as the current in-town rate is $35 and out of town is $45, it is also there year round at a click of a mouse. "All of the issues are archived for the year online," said Co-Owner Sharee LaRue. "We are very excited about this move into the present for our small paper. We will also be one of the only papers in the area online that archives the entire paper for each issue."
The staff at the paper realizes that some people don't have time to pick up the paper every week, but they still want to know about their community and see their kids in print at school and sport activities. "This gives the busy reader a place to skim the paper online and read what is important to them," said Co-Owner Melanie Hall.
The paper is also excited for their readers that they will now be able to provide free services to their online subscribers that they haven't been able to do before. "When you buy a subscription online, the subscriber will be able to save photos from the paper to send to family or print," said LaRue.
"They can also print off stories with photos to put in scrap books."
The other advantages to having an online subscription, is that if you get behind a couple of weeks, you won't have a bunch of papers laying around the house until they get thrown away, you can just log on and catch up. The online paper will be uploaded and ready to view one day early on Thursdays.
"We feel that this will be a big help to people doing research and people that do a lot of their work online," said Hall. “ It also fits in to the new wave of being GREEN."
